Another 1-minute video from our YouTube channel, where we answer frequently asked questions about panel fixing.
Video commentary:
Hi, I'm Phil Hall, Technical Manager at Button-fix. We're often asked about mounting thin panels using Button-fix.
Our recommended fixings guide, downloadable from the website, gives guidance on standard screws that will securely attach Fixes to panels as thin as 8mm (0.3"). However, to attach Buttons to thin panels for maximum strength, we recommend using Ø6.2mm Varianta Euroscrews. These are square-ended screws with large threads, which give really good strength in any wood-based product. They do require a Ø5 mm pilot hole.
For Type 1, we have a special orange Button to fit Varianta Euroscrews. Ensure you use the correct Euroscrew with these Buttons. Again, they're listed in our recommended fixings guide. This is really important as Euroscrews come with a variety of head shapes and sizes. Note that Type 1 Metal Buttons and Type 2 blue Buttons also work with the same screws.
Using the shorter 13 mm Euroscrew gives us 6mm (0.25") net thread length, so we can attach to an 8mm (0.3") thick panel as a practical minimum. The longer 16mm Euroscrew gives 8.5mm (0.33") of net thread length, so gives a very strong hold in 10mm (0.4") panels and upwards. They can also be used for back-to-back Fixes on 18mm (0.75") panels.
For anything thinner than 8mm (0.3"), go for Type 1 Bonded.
Notes:
Phil mentions the orange Button for Type 1 fasteners, which has been designed to accept Varianta Euroscrews. There are many different types of Euroscrew available, but the ones that work with our orange Button are Häfele part no. 013.15.724 and 013.15.733
For US customers, the Häfele America part numbers are 013.51.724 and 013.51.733
Recommended fixings guides can now be found in the instructions for use for each Button-fix Type.
