How to mount panels on uneven walls

In another YouTube short film, Button-fix's Technical Manager, Phil Hall, shares his knowledge about panel fasteners.

Video commentary:

Hi, I'm Phil Hall Technical Manager at Button-fix. We're often asked about hanging panels on rough or uneven walls. Here's what we recommend.

It can be a struggle using the Marker tools on rough walls and drilling accurately into masonry can be difficult. It's much better to fix softwood battens to the wall.

Levelling the battens can be done using a long straight edge, but ideally, as shown here, using a laser level. Either way, the basic routine is to find the most prominent point on the battens and level everything else up to that. Then working my way around the battens, I add packers to bring them up to the same level across the whole wall.

The fixes are attached to the panels to match the batten spacing, in this example, for sideways installation. With the Button Marker tools installed, the panels are carefully levelled in place and the Button positions marked precisely back onto the battens, with a good wallop at all the Fix positions. The Marker indentations will show much better on the softwood battens and the Buttons will be positioned more accurately. Then simply screw on the Buttons, remove the Marker tools and attach the panels.
