Using the Multijig accessory

Whether you want to fully recess Type 1 Flush or semi-recess one of the other Type 1 fasteners, the clear acrylic Multijig is a must-have accessory in your workshop. You will need a metric Ø12mm cutter and a Ø16mm guide bush for your router.

The Multijig has three clearly labelled apertures: the first aperture is for the Type 1 Metal; the second for the Type 1 Fix and the Type 1 Bonded; and the third aperture is for the Type 1 Flush. There are guide lines marking the finished Button centre position, vertical centre-lines, and graticules at 5mm intervals to assist alignment with the workpiece. Make sure the Multijig is secured to the workpiece with clamps and/or screws before you start to machine. Also make sure the depth is correctly set on your router, to suit the specific Button-fix Type.

As well as rebating into the face of a panel, Type 1 Flush can be recessed into the edge of a panel or slat that measures at least 28mm thick. To use the Multijig for this application, first loosely screw a planed timber batten to the underside of the Multijig with two countersunk screws, fixing though the slotted holes. Next, securely clamp the batten to the workpiece and adjust the Multijig until the centreline guides align. Once aligned, lock the Multijig to the batten with two more countersunk screws. Take care to ensure the Multijig assembly is stable before routing the panel.
