Why use

Type 1 Metal

?

Whether it is in transport environments, subject to vibration and shock loads, or for fire-rated ceiling panels, the Type 1 Metal Button-fix is the high-performance choice.

It is an incredibly strong, reliable and versatile fastener, with rigorous independent test reports to prove it.

As well as load testing to destruction, Type 1 Metal has been repeat-fitted over 15,000 times to ensure the 'click' fit does not fatigue. This makes it ideal for connecting furniture that is frequently reconfigured. Like the polymer Type 1, it is also reversible and can be installed surface-mounted or semi-rebated to save space.

Guide loads

Wall panel with 4 x Fixes, guide load = 770 lbs max.

Ceiling panel with 4 x Fixes, guide load = 500 lbs max.

- Advice on panel loads is given with the proviso that the screws and substrate are properly matched, and all other instructions complied with. For critical applications it is essential to perform your own tests.

- Advice is based on independent load tests with Button-fix attached to 18mm MDF or plywood. Allowances should be made when using different panels.

Compatible buttons & accessories

Buttons

Zinc Button for Type 1 Metal

Zinc Button for Type 1 Metal

Diecast in ZL2 zinc alloy, it pairs with the Type 1 Metal Fix to create a robust, all-metal connector for demanding applications. Use with #10 flat head wood screws, M5 machine screws or Ø6.2mm Varianta Euro screws.

Accessories

Button Marker accessory

Button Marker for Type 1 & 3

The Button Marker for both Type 1 and Type 3 helps to quickly and accurately align the Button-fix installation, reducing the need for measuring and marking out. Simply snap a marker into each Fix, then position the panel and press firmly. The indents mark where the Buttons go.

Router Multijig

Router Multijig for Type 1

The Multijig helps when machining the oval recesses required for rebated configurations of Button-fix. It is made from clear acrylic, so that you can see the workpiece below, and has printed guide marks. For rebating Type 1, Type 1 Flush, Type 1 Bonded and Type 1 Metal Fixes.

More fasteners

The Type 1 Button-fix connects parallel panels where the emphasis is on strength, and is recommended when the panels are carrying cantilevered loads such as shelving.

  1. Connects panels face-to-face with a 0.12" or 0.31" gap
  2. Drop down or sideways engagement
  3. Ideal for acoustic, wall and ceiling panels

For hanging thin materials such as solid grade laminate, solid surface (Corian®, Hanex®, etc.), glass, metal or stone, Type 1 Bonded Button-fix is the best solution.

  1. For bonding to panels of any thickness
  2. Drop down or sideways engagement
  3. Ideal for signage and exhibition displays

When constructing furniture, cladding reception desks or adding sides to kitchen cabinets, and panel-to-panel contact is required, Type 1 Flush is the recommended Button-fix.

  1. Connects panels face-to-face with no gap
  2. Drop down or sideways engagement
  3. Ideal for furniture assembly

Its 90° connection and straight push-on engagement make the Type 2 Button-fix the recommended choice for access panels and boxing-in services.

  1. Connects panels at 90° or to a frame
  2. Push-on engagement
  3. Ideal for service access such as bath panels

Like the original Type 2, they connect panels at 90° or to a frame. But their more compact installation depth allows the Button to be fitted to the edge of an aperture in an 18mm (3/4”) panel – ideal for a service access window.

  1. Smaller installation depth than Type 2
  2. Option of push-on or drop-down assembly
  3. Ideal for washroom services ducts

The push-on/pull-off engagement of the Type 3 Button-fix couldn't be simpler, and is ideal when there is no clearance around the panel.

  1. Connects panels face-to-face with a 0.12" or 0.31" gap
  2. Strong push on/pull off engagement
  3. Ideal for acoustic, wall and ceiling panels
